Many people have visited
the Arataki Centre in Waitekere but CCET’s trip
on 13 September gave us a new experience.
58 members arrived at the centre at 9:30 am and the
staff began by explaining the Maori statue at the entrance.
We were all impressed by the history that hidden behind
those posture and costumes. Then ARC ranger, Riki Bennett
introduced to us the ancient Maori tools which were
really clever ones. The short bush walk was filled with
surprises!
Riki showed us an amazing plant which had leaves that
were used as writing paper and toilet paper in the old
days. He made beautiful tunes by folding a leaf and
playing various wood instruments he carried in his bag.
A warm applause was won from everyone when he lighted
a fire by rubbing two pieces of wood.
But we had some complaint for the day: we did not work
long enough in the nursery!
