Tamaki Estuary Walk and Bird Rescue Centre Visit

Tamaki River is near Pakuranga which densely populated by Chinese. Ross and Chris of Tamaki Estuary Protection Society led us to the beautiful estuary, guided us for a walk in the bush, on the beach, along the mangroves and ponds. We learned about the importance of the estuary to the ocean; learned of the human activities that can endanger the birds’ lives and the ways to avoid them. The visit to the Bird Rescue Centre in the afternoon introduced us to a lady, Pam Chapman, who had devoted her money and time to rescue and take care of the injured birds. Then after recovery, they are released back to the nature. What a touching story! The participants donated $82 to the Bird Rescue Centre.
