Tamaki River is near Pakuranga
which densely populated by Chinese. Ross and Chris of
Tamaki Estuary Protection Society led us to the beautiful
estuary, guided us for a walk in the bush, on the beach,
along the mangroves and ponds. We learned about the
importance of the estuary to the ocean; learned of the
human activities that can endanger the birds’
lives and the ways to avoid them. The visit to the Bird
Rescue Centre in the afternoon introduced us to a lady,
Pam Chapman, who had devoted her money and time to rescue
and take care of the injured birds. Then after recovery,
they are released back to the nature. What a touching
story! The participants donated $82 to the Bird Rescue
Centre. |
