| On the 13th of September, we, the
CCET went on a trip to Arataki. The first thing we did
was to help Park Rangers with the weeding in the nursery.
Another Park Ranger taught us
about stuff that ancient Maori used. Most of the tools
were made out of wood, but they are similar to the tools
we use today. They made instruments with plants as well.
The Park Ranger showed us how to make fire with wood.
They told us flax was very important in ancient Maori
life, they used it as baskets, strings, etc. etc.
After all the work, we were all tired
and hungry, so the CCET planned a sausage sizzle for
us. We had great fun. After the excitement, we went
to see a movie which is called Auckland's Wild West,
it’s about Auckland’s history of the west
side and the trees there. Because the wood was too heavy
to move, a dam was built and when they opened the gate,
all the water went all over the place and the trees
were washed down with the water. This is how they transported
them.
After the movie, we had two choices: stay
in the information centre or go for a walk around the
area. Most of the children stayed in the information
centre because there were some fun activities to do.
Others just walked around and looked at the beautiful
scenery. It was a very interesting trip, not only because
of all the food, but we met lots of new people and places. |
